Introduction
Follow along in our below linked install guide for the installation of the Universal Traction Board Mounts. If you have any questions, please contact us.
Install Time & Difficulty
10 - 20 minutes
Easy
Tools Needed:
- Crescent wrench or 17 mm wrench
- 3/8 in socket (for included bolts)
- 5/32 inch Allen key (for BuiltRight accessory rail)
Installation
1. Assembling the Mounts:
-
Identify Slots on the Mounting Plates:
- The two shallower slots are for mounting the pins/bolts for the traction boards.
- The four deeper slots are for mounting the entire unit to your chosen surface (bed rail, roof rack, etc.).
-
Install the Mounting Bolts:
- Flip the mounting plate over.
- Drop the included bolt into the appropriate slot (the slot will prevent the bolt from spinning).
- flip back over, add a washer and thread on the M10 nut. Leave it slightly loose so you can adjust the mount later.
- Repeat on the other side for the second mounting bolt.
2. Adjusting for Different Traction Board Sizes:
-
Universal and Adjustable Mounting:
- The mounts are adjustable to accommodate various traction board sizes.
- Built-in markings for common sizes (e.g., 270 mm center-to-center for MaxTrax boards) help with precise alignment.
-
Adjusting for MaxTrax Boards:
- Measure the center-to-center distance of your traction board mounting holes (MaxTrax uses 270 mm).
- Move the washer and bolt so that the washer’s edge aligns with the appropriate measurement (e.g., the 270 mm mark).
- Snug down the bolts once they’re aligned.
-
Alternative Option: MaxTrax Pins:
- The mount is compatible with MaxTrax pins for a quicker release.
- Install the MaxTrax pin the same way as the bolts. The pin will drop into the slot, and the mount will capture the nut to prevent it from spinning.
- Tighten at the correct mark (e.g., 270 mm) for the MaxTrax pins.
3. Mounting to BuiltRight Accessory Rails or Other Systems:
-
Mounting to Engineering Extrusions:
- The mounts can be secured to extrusions, such as BuiltRight’s bulkhead accessory rail.
- Use the drop-in nuts or T-slot nuts designed for the extrusion system.
- Slide the drop-in nuts into the desired locations, aligning them with the mounting slots on the plate.
- Loosely install the bolts and washers to allow for adjustments later.
- Once the mounts are aligned and centered, tighten the bolts.
4. Securing Your Traction Boards:
-
Using BuiltRight Hardware:
- Place your traction boards onto the mounting bolts.
- Tighten the composite knobs down securely.
- Preload the knobs slightly (a few additional rotations) to prevent rattling during transit.
-
Using MaxTrax Pins:
- Place the traction boards onto the MaxTrax pins.
- Lock the boards in place by rotating the pins (as per MaxTrax’s design).
5. Alternative Mounting to MOLLE Panels:
-
Mounting with Universal Hardware:
- If mounting to a MOLLE panel (e.g., BuiltRight Tech Plate), drop the included bolts through the MOLLE slots.
- From the backside, secure with a washer and nut.
- Repeat for multiple locations (3–4 bolts recommended).
- Leave bolts loose until the final position is set, then tighten everything down.
-
Using BuiltRight MOLLE Nuts:
- If using BuiltRight MOLLE panels, MOLLE nuts simplify installation. The nuts hold themselves in place without needing access to the backside of the panel.
- Insert the MOLLE nuts into the desired locations.
- Use the included quarter-inch bolts to secure the mount into the MOLLE nuts.
- Adjust and tighten as needed.
