BuiltRight Industries Seat Bottom MOLLE Panel Installation Guide
Ford F-150 / Raptor (2015-2025) + Super Duty (2017-2025)
Applies to driver and passenger side seat bottom MOLLE panel kits from BuiltRight Industries
Installation video available at bottom of page
Overview
This guide walks through installation of the BuiltRight Industries Seat Bottom MOLLE Panel system for Ford trucks. Installation requires partially opening the seat upholstery, attaching mounting clamps to the seat frame, and securing the MOLLE panel through the upholstery using the included hardware.
Installation time is approximately 30-60 minutes per side depending on familiarity and trim level.
What's Included
In the Box
Each side includes:
- 1x Seat Bottom MOLLE Panel
- 4x Mounting Clamps
- 4x Standoffs
- Mounting Hardware
- Sticker + Thank You Card
Driver and passenger side kits install almost identically, with minor differences around the seatbelt hardware on the driver side.
Tools Required
You will need:
- 7/16" wrench
- 1/2" wrench
- 5/32" Allen key
- Sharp razor blade or utility knife
- Pick tool or trim tool
A flashlight can also help when working beneath the seat upholstery.
Installation Overview
The system mounts directly to the seat frame tubing beneath the upholstery.
The included clamps wrap around the seat frame tubing and support threaded standoffs. The MOLLE panel then bolts onto those standoffs with the seat upholstery sandwiched between the panel and mounting hardware.
Small slits are cut into the upholstery to allow the mounting bolts to pass through cleanly, and almost entirely disappear if returning to stock is desired.
Step 1 - Separate the Seat Upholstery
This is typically the trickiest part of the install.
Under the front edge of the seat, the upper and lower upholstery sections are connected using interlocking J-hooks.
These hooks function similarly to two fishing hooks clipped together.
To Separate the Upholstery:
- Reach underneath the front edge of the seat.
- Locate the interlocking J-hooks.
- Use a pick tool or trim tool to carefully pry one side loose.
- Once one section releases, the rest typically separates easily.
Take your time here. Once you understand how the hooks interlock, the process becomes straightforward.
Step 2 - Open the Seat Upholstery
With the front upholstery disconnected:
- Locate the seat zippers underneath the seat.
- Carefully unzip both sides.
- Pull the upholstery back to expose the seat frame tubing.
Important:
- Work slowly around the zippers.
- If resistance is felt, inspect for snagged threads before forcing the zipper.
Step 3 - Install the Mounting Clamps
The clamps attach directly around the exposed seat frame tubing.
Clamp Positioning
- Wrap each clamp around the seat frame tube.
- Position the bend of each clamp approximately at a 45° angle relative to the tube.
- The clamps are intentionally flexible and can be adjusted during installation.
Loosely install all four clamps before moving on.
Tip:
The seat foam can be pushed aside as needed during installation.
Step 4 - Install the Standoffs
Install the supplied standoffs onto each clamp.
Hardware Order
For each mounting point:
- Insert the standoff through the clamp
- Install washer
- Start nut on backside
- Tighten lightly (you still want some movement for final adjustments)
Tools
- 1/2" wrench on standoff
- 7/16" wrench on nut
Important Notes
- The upper mounting locations use the longer standoffs.
- Tighten enough to hold position while still allowing minor adjustment.
- Final alignment will happen after test-fitting the panel.
Step 5 - Test Fit the MOLLE Panel
Before cutting the upholstery:
- Hold the panel in place against the standoffs.
- Verify alignment of all four mounting points.
- Adjust clamps as needed.
The lower clamps should align with the lower mounting slots in the panel.
Once satisfied, snug the mounting hardware slightly more while still allowing minor adjustment.
Step 6 - Cut the Upholstery
Reposition the upholstery over the standoffs.
Feel through the upholstery to locate each standoff position.
Creating Access Slits
Using a sharp razor blade:
- Create a small vertical slit over each standoff location.
- Only cut large enough for bolt clearance. (around 1/2"- 3/4" long)
Important:
- Keep upholstery flat while marking and cutting.
- A sharp blade reduces fraying and makes cleaner cuts.
- Small slits become nearly invisible once installed.
Step 7 - Install the MOLLE Panel
Leave the zippers open during this step.
Installation Sequence
Start with the upper corner that contains the keyhole slot.
- Insert the first bolt loosely
- Use the keyhole feature to temporarily support the panel
- Install the remaining three bolts loosely
Tips
- Reach behind the upholstery if needed to help guide bolts through the slits.
- The upholstery may need slight adjustment around the threads.
- Do not fully tighten hardware until all four bolts are started.
Once aligned:
- Adjust panel position as desired
- Verify straightness
- Fully tighten all mounting hardware
Step 8 - Reassemble the Seat
Once the panel is fully tightened:
- Re-zip both upholstery zippers
- Reconnect the J-hook upholstery channel
Reconnecting the J-Hooks
Start at one side and work across similarly to closing a zipper.
A pick tool can help guide the hooks back together.
Once connected:
- Tuck the zipper ends back into the seat
- Verify upholstery sits naturally around the panel
Driver Side Notes
The driver side installation is nearly identical to the passenger side.
The primary difference is working around:
- Seat belt hardware
- Seat belt tensioner assembly
Carefully move the upholstery around these components during installation.
The larger driver-side panel can also benefit from a second set of hands during final alignment, though installation is still fully manageable solo.
Final Check
After installation:
- Verify all hardware is tight
- Confirm upholstery is fully reattached
- Check panel alignment
- Ensure seat functions normally
Additional Features
Integrated upper scallops in the MOLLE panel can be used to help stabilize:
- Grocery bags
- Backpacks
- Small cargo items
These features help keep lightweight items upright during travel.
